"So We Became a Couple" is the fifth episode of the second season of the Masamune-kun's Revenge R anime. It was released on July 31, 2023.

Summary

Masamune interrupts Aki and Kanetsugu's date by saying he's the Masamune Aki had met 8 years ago and ends up asking her out. Surprisingly, Aki ends up saying yes and the two formally become a couple, but Masamune can't help but feel conflicted…

Plot

Kanetsugu stands up and pushes Masamune stating that he is only interested in Aki because she turned him down and his pride as a popular guy makes him want to mess with her. Masamune states that in his past, he wasn't popular and was bullied. He approaches Aki and states that it changed when he met a little arrogant girl. Aki then realizes he is the real Masamune. Kanetsugu states he is lying and Masamune had hurt her so many times, but Kanetsugu's shirt was messed up and Aki sees that he has a cleavage. She asks him about it, but Kanetsugu acts like he got a call from the hospital and leaves. After Kanetsugu leaves, Masamune mocks Aki of how oblivious and blind she is, or that she is now into girls. Annoyed, Aki states that she is oblivious and has ugly personality, but then why did Masamune asked her out. As Masamune panics, Aki then accepts his request to go on a date with him. Meanwhile, Kanetsugu goes to the hospital to see her little sister. Kanetsugu feels relieved that the secret is out, but as Masamune punched her quite hard, she wonders if she should make him take responsibility.

Masamune is training in his room. Chinatsu calls him to come and eat, but he is too focused on what Aki have said and doesn't hear her. Later at school, a girl confesses that she loves him. Masamune notes that this ain't the first girl that confessed and turns her down. The girl realizes that the rumors must be true and that Aki had finally fallen in love with a guy, however she is fine being Masamune's second girl. Masamune panics and gives her his unfinished water with vitamins and runs away. The girls feels puzzled, but gets happy to have his leftovers. At the lockers, Masamune feels that recently a lot of intense girls are coming after him. Neko tells him that he and Aki had formed a super couple and now a lot of people are either crying themselves to sleep or are coming after him. Masamune tells her that this doesn't concern her, but Neko states she may be one of those who cries themselves to sleep. However given the situation its unknown of what it may happen.

At lunch, Aki sends Masamune a message to go buy her food. While fighting the crowd, Masamune tells the shop lady what he wants, but she tells him to yell louder like the other day. Masamune then sees that the shop lady is Kanetsugu and gets shocked. After the other students are gone, Kanetsugu reveals that she is broke and the school let her work there. She worked on "Plan F" as in fishing, acting like Masamune from years ago and trying to get financial support for the Adagaki family. Her plan failed and she had to sell her home, but managed to cover the expenses. She is glad that she no longer have to pretend about her social status and lie people. Kanetsugu is surprised of how much Masamune had changed. She tells him that he needs to take responsibility for punching her and has to marry her. She figured that he is also quite rich and has a promising future, so maybe she should continue with her Plan F. Masamune starts to panic, but Kanetsugu laughs and tells him that she is joking.

Masamune brings the lunch to Aki and sees her that she was trying to take out a stove and carries it to the middle of the store room. Masamune complains that Aki didn't even say thank you for bringing her food and feeling forced, she gives him a croquette as thanks. Masamune states he has own food, but Aki tells him that he needs to eat proper food and that the old Masamune was much more round. She invites him to some donuts after school, but Masamune declines. He grabs her face stating that her sentiment is more than enough. The two then blush. In that moment, Yoshino returns bringing kerosene for the stove, causing Masamune to panic and leave.

Masamune realizes that since Aki didn't call him "Pig's Foot", he doesn't hate her and Yoshino is regretting it all this time, so he can't hate her either. He later meets with Yoshino and wonders if there are any problems, but she states its all fine as he didn't reveal what she did in the past. Masamune then states that he has a date with Aki, but cries stating its quite hard to go out with someone and wonders what he should do. Yoshino reveals that Aki's birthday is on 24th, on Christmas Eve and she would be happy if he spends the day with her. Yoshino also reveals that she will stop meeting like this with Masamune.
